Bone and Connective Tissues/Tissue Engineering

The Arany lab is pursuing directed differentiation of stem cells using biomaterials-based scaffold systems. As a prototypical tissue, the lab is interested in outlining the precise biological and biophysical cues necessary for dentin regeneration. Inspired by embryonic development, their prior work has demonstrated the ability to generate spatio-temporally restricted morphogen fields using a combination of agonist (eg; growth factor) and antagonist (eg; neutralizing antibody) cues. A major emphasis in his group is to pursue molecular mechanisms driving this process to enable in vivo animal testing and human clinical translation.
