The University at Buffalo is a research-intensive public institution with a 150-year heritage of excellence in the medical sciences. At the School of Dental Medicine, our research programs cover a wide range of oral health problems — from the basic research of molecular and cellular biology, to understanding community health factors of oral cancers.

Our Health Sciences Center comprises the Schools of Dental Medicine, Health Related Professions, Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing and Pharmacy, fostering cross-disciplinary research and offering researchers access to facilities and faculty throughout the university.

At the School of Dental Medicine, our long-standing research strengths have focused on periodontal disease, clinical dental studies, biological films, pain, and materials science. New and enhanced research areas include genomics, bone biology, salivary gland disease, forensics, implantology, community health and applied clinical materials.
Our research programs support and help the Western New York region in countless ways.
