The DDS Program cost of attendance is the total estimated expenses for four years of dental school. This includes tuition, room and board, books, supplies, transportation, loan fees, and miscellaneous expenses.   • All personal statements, essays, and financial aid scholarship information must be submitted online through the Academicworks portal.
  • Personal financial information does not need to be submitted to our office.

  • The deadline to submit a classmate nomination for scholarship consideration is Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 11:59pm EST.
Deadline for ALL Scholarship Applications Due Date - Monday, May 6, 2024
  • All 2024 SDM scholarship applications are due by Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:59pm EST.
  • There will be no exceptions to our application deadline.

This award will be given to a student who is academically in the top third of his/her class and who has shown leadership in the school or community.

 

The student should demonstrate the potential of developing into an outstanding leader in the dental profession and possess ethical and caring behaviors.

 

The student must exhibit financial need.

4th Year

Presented to a well rounded 4th Year dental student who has involvement in class and student affairs and is in the top one-third of their class academically.

Class of 1952 2nd, 3rd, 4th Year

This scholarship is awarded to students with one or more of the following abilities/skills, as determined by peers or faculty or both:

 

a) notably ethical behavior
b) particularly caring behavior towards patients
c) leadership in the school or community

Class of 1964
2nd & 3rd Year Presented to a 2nd or 3rd year student in good academic standing; shows financial need. Priority will be given to those applicants with either veteran status or military service.

Dr. Paul Crombach Scholarship

 

3rd Year

The person chosen must be a third year student in good academic standing and exhibit the following characteristics:

 

Conscientiousness in his/her studies and the drive to excel in all academic undertakings; A deep sensitivity and appreciation for peers, faculty members, and patients; Helpfulness, actively seeks opportunities to assist others, not just when asked; Charity, demonstrates charitable acts when he/she identifies a need;

 

Someone who doesn't take him/herself too seriously and partakes in the fun; Being the type of person who everyone could consider a friend and rally to support without hesitation because of his/her demeanor and their respect for him/her.

Class of 1980 David Foti Memorial Award

 

 

 

2nd Year

 

Students who have completed their 1st year of dental school; display strong spirt & character, & taken actions that have helped their classmates. This scholarship will be to be given to a student that has just completed his/her first year of dental school.  

 

The recipient of this award has displayed a strong spirit, character, and course of action that helped his/her classmates weather the difficulties, and challenges of the first year of dental school.  

 

This may have been demonstrated by: tutoring/counseling classmates, referring classmates to appropriate sources for assistance, organizing/leading or participating in meetings to discuss issues, alleviating times of tension with his/her jovial spirit, and being a person that you would call a friend.

Dr. Earle J. Kelsey Memorial Scholarship Fund

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th Year

Students pursuing a degree leading to a Doctor of Dental Surgery; worthy students & good academic standing.

 

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of "good moral character, good personal attributes, interest in the career chosen, consideration of others, ambition, previous involvement in the community and school and good academic standing."

Thomas C. Labenski Scholarship Fund

 

 

 

 

3rd Year 

 

The scholarship was established by the Class of 1985 in honor of a classmate who passed away in 1987 after a lengthy illness. It is awarded to a rising third year dental student who exemplifies characteristics demonstrated by Tom Labenski during his dental training in Buffalo.  

 

These include: the desire to learn the maximum without compromising quality patient care or interactions with classmates; concern for classmates; conscientious participation in class-sponsored activities; amiability and consideration for classmates, patients, faculty and staff; being the person that everyone would call friend and rally to support without hesitation because of his/her demeanor and their respect for him/her.

Dr. Edwin Lambert Scholarship 2nd, 3rd, 4th Year This scholarship is awarded to a student in good academic standing, demonstrates an affinity for providing community service to the underserved, with a preference to those with financial need.

Carl W. Lasher Scholarship

 

2nd, 3rd, 4th Year Awarded to sophomore, junior, or senior Dental Medicine students in good academic standing. Recognizes students who have demonstrated outstanding scholarship and exhibits a positive attitude and well rounded involvement in class and student affairs.

Dr. Joseph Maffei Scholarship - Class of 1983

 

 

 

3rd Year

Dr. Maffei was first and foremost an outstanding classmate, who loved the profession of Dentistry, and his four years at the School of Dental Medicine. All applicants should possess the following attributes-

3rd & 4th Year

Applicants must be third or fourth year dental students in good academic standing, with a demonstrated interest and involvement in professional and/or public service.

Steven M. Robbins Memorial Scholarship Fund 3rd Year Presented to a 3rd year dental student involved in both class & school affairs with an academic standing in the top 3rd of their class.

Rosenthal Scholarship 2nd Year

To provide aid to a second year dental student who is in the top half of their class upon completion of their first year who demonstrate financial need and who exhibit positive attitudes and strong work ethic towards the remaining years of their dental school education.

 

It is the intent of the Donor to annually provide financial aid to one sophomore student who is in the top one-half of his or her class upon completion of their freshman year, who demonstrates critical financial need and who exhibits a positive attitude, shows strong work ethic toward their dental school education, and is committed to public health initiatives.

Western New York Dental Group Scholarship

3rd and 4th Year

 

Presented to junior or senior students in good standing; attributes of a professional capable of entering a dental group practice specifically teamwork skills, clinical excellence and leadership.

 

Students will be nominated by members of their class and students who received the most peer nominations will be considered by faculty and admin during the annual meeting; distribution may go to more than one student

Women's Dental Guild Scholarship 2nd, 3rd, 4th Year

This scholarship recognizes a second, third, or fourth year student who is in good academic standing, has demonstrated financial need, exhibits a positive attitude, and a commitment to service in the community.
