The new and updated lab space in the preclinical simulation facility allows students to focus on learning state-of-the-art techniques and perfecting their skills.
- Constructed in 2019, our state-of-the-art preclinic simulation facility includes 110 individual student work stations that feature simulators designed to mimic patient care and ease the transition to the school’s patient clinics.
- The center expands digital dental technology and facilitates the introduction of new teaching models. The center helps dental students develop psychomotor skills, perform intraoral scanning, and digitally design and mill restorations.
- Computers at each student workstation have the same electronic health record software used in UB’s dental clinics.
- The lab also includes a faculty conference room, a small group learning room, and a facility for computer aided 3D design and manufacturing.
- The School of Dental Medicine has two fully equipped, full-service prosthodontic laboratories located on the second floor of Squire Hall.
- Each laboratory employs full-time certified dental laboratory technicians to assist both predoctoral and graduate students with the completion of dental laboratory procedures associated with patient care.
- The experience students gain in interacting with the school’s technical laboratories prepares them to effectively communicate with commercial dental laboratories when they enter practice.
- Under the supervision of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, dental laboratory technicians in the Fixed Prosthodontic Technical Laboratory fabricate crowns and bridges, apply porcelain, and serve as a technical resource for DDS and graduate students.
- Certified dental laboratory technicians perform all phases in the fabrication of removable partial dentures and complete dentures.
- Students learn to write laboratory prescriptions and interact with technicians to achieve optimal clinical results.
- Laboratory technicians work closely with third- and fourth-year students assigned to treat emergency patients in the repair of broken or damaged dentures.
- A historic renovation of Squire Hall will strengthen our ability to attract top students, treat patients and improve the educational experience.
