Application Frequently Asked Questions

When should I apply to the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine International Dentistry Program?

  • The 2025-2026 CAAPID application cycle opens on March 6, 2025.  
  • It is your choice when to apply as completed applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received. 
  • Early application is encouraged to avoid having any problems with meeting our June 15, 2025 deadline.

What is the deadline for applying to IDP at the University at Buffalo?

  • The 2025 - 2026 IDP application deadline for all candidates is June 15, 2025. 
  • Our admissions committee will not make any excecptions to our application deadline. 
  • Please do not wait until a few days before our application deadline to complete your application.    

If I applied in a previous application cycle, do I have to submit an application through CAAPID again?

  • Yes
  • Returning applicants will need to submit a new application along with required documents via the online CAAPID application portal.

Who should I contact if I have questions about the online CAAPID application portal?

What agency’s course-by-course evaluations does your IDP Admissions Committee accept?

Does the IDP program have a minimum GPA for admission consideration?

  • There is no minimum grade point average (GPA) required for admission to our International Dentist Program. 
  • Our admissions committee understands that IDP applicants come from various countries, and that ECE GPA’s can vary between institutions. We take this into consideration when evaluating applicants.

For the ECE evaluation, do you use the BEST grade point average (GPA), or the COMPREHENSIVE grade point average (GPA)?

  • Our admissions committee considers all academic performance as grades, and grade point averages, differ between countries. 

Do you consider the Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT) for admission consideration ?

  • No. 
  • We do not consider the ADAT for admission consideration.
  • Our admissions committee understands that some advanced standing programs require the ADAT exam. However, we do not
  • Even if your ADAT scores are reflected in your CAAPID application for other programs, these scores will not be considered for admission consideration to our program. 

Am I required to submit a Dean's letter?

  • No. 
  • You are not required to submit a Dean's letter for admission to our IDP Program.

Who should I ask for reference letters?

  • Our admissions committee does not require letters of reference from specific individuals (e.g. Dean's Letter). You can choose to obtain letters from anyone. 
  • The content of your reference letters is important. Therefore, we encourage you to choose referees who know you well. 
  • When choosing references, we advise finding individuals who can best attest to your academics, professional experience, personal qualities and traits

Can I submit additional reference letters directly to your IDP Admissions Committee?

  • No. 
  • We do not accept additional reference letters directly to our office as all applicants must be evaluated in the same manner. 

Can I apply to your program with a provisional degree certificate?

  • No. 
  • Your ECE evaluation must indicate you completed your dental degree in your home country. 
  • While you can begin your application before completing your dental degree, you must have an ECE evaluation indicating a completed degree by our June 15, 2025.

Do you place preference on IDP applicants who are US or Canadian citizens?

  • No.
  • All IDP applications are evaluated in the same exact manner regardless of country of citizenship. 
  • If an admitted student requires a student VISA, our office works with UB International Admissions to help process the I-20.
