Research Day Poster Information

IADR/AADR and SDM Student Research Day posters should be in a vertical format.

Note: Templates can be adjusted under the "slide size" option in PowerPoint if your meeting has specific size requirements and/or restrictions.

PDF files of your poster are preferred for submission. Please have your files approved by your mentor prior to submitting them for printing.

Follow the instructions below to get started.

Create your poster text in a word editing program, such as Microsoft Word. Keep text to a minimum, use short phrases and avoid long sentences.
Prepare your images at a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Always use JPEG files! Never use files from the internet; they will not print well because of their low resolution.
If you want to use charts, graphs, etc. from other applications, be careful. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint graphics usually paste cleanly, but others may be less predictable. Proof carefully.
Save all of your external photos, graphics, charts, etc., in the same folder where you are saving your poster. This way, if you run into a problem while printing, you have the original file.

Download your research poster template.
Use "Edit>Copy/paste" for text from Word, and place it into the columns provided. Resize as needed, but keep the font sizes as large as possible. (Try to use a minimum 16-point font size when possible.)
Use "Edit>Copy/paste" to copy and paste charts or tables from Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. Use "File>Insert" for photos and graphics. Resize and move into place as needed.

Save your file as a PDF, if possible. This will ensure all fonts, tables, etc., will print correctly when printing from different platforms.
In order to print your poster, you must obtain approval from your mentor. The Media Center will proceed with the poster request upon receiving the completed form signed by your mentor. Please contact Jason Chwirut for the form.
Double-check your spelling and spacing before printing. Paper is costly, and students may be charged for additional prints due to design errors.
If designing on a Mac, try to test your poster on a PC to be sure everything looks correct. (Our office prints from a PC.)
You may submit your poster by email (jchwirut@buffalo.edu), jump drive (260H Squire Hall), or by uploading to the Box folder.
Please allow at least 2-3 business days (Monday-Friday) for your poster printing turnaround, unless prior arrangements have been made with the Instructional Resource Center Staff.
