IDP Holistic Admissions
What is holistic admission?
- The International Dentist Program (IDP) employs a holistic admissions process, recognizing each applicant's unique value.
- We do not rely on a single criterion, but rather assess how an applicant's comprehensive experiences—academic, professional, and personal—align with the goals of our program and the dental profession.
- We move beyond conventional definitions of diversity, recognizing the richness of experiences that contribute to a vibrant learning environment and improved patient care.
- Recognizing that diversity extends beyond traditional demographics, we seek to admit individuals who will both benefit from and contribute to our educational community, ultimately becoming successful and adaptable dental practitioners.
Factors considered in an IDP applicant's file include, but are not limited to, include:
- Overall Academic Experience (not ECE GPA)
- Dental Related Experience
- Critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and research experience
- Demonstrated compassion and service to others
- Obtaining a realistic preview of the US or Canadian dental profession
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Leadership skills
- Community service
- Personal Statement
- Letters of Recommendation
Additional factors that are considered, but are not limited to, include:
- TOEFL Scores (preference is given to those candidates with scores of 90 or better).
- Unique work or service activities, especially when demonstrated how these experiences have led to improved outcomes.
- Personal leadership associated with making an impact or change.
