An alternative loan is a private, non-federal loan from an outside source such as a bank or other lending institution.
You must apply for separate loans to pay for the Summer Program Fee and the following two academic years of the DDS Program.
New federal regulations require all students that apply for an alternative/private loan to complete a Private Education Loan Application Self-Certification form.
Your lender will require this form as part of your application process. The form can be submitted by fax, paper, or electronically depending on your lender.

Please submit this form directly to your lender, not to the Dental School, SDM Office of Continuing Education, or the University at Buffalo Financial Aid Office.
Students have the right to select the alternative lender of their choice.
In order to better serve our students and their families, we have created a listing of reputable lenders that offer flexible loan products and services.
UB/CDE will try to accept loan certifications for other private education lenders, however, if they are not on the list below, you must contact us prior to applying so we can make special arrangements.
