The Curriculum

Cariology and Direct Restoration

Together these laboratory courses introduce students to the non-surgical and surgical treatment of dental caries including contemporary concepts in the practice of direct restorative dentistry, resin composite and glass ionomer restorations.

Endodontics

This endodontic laboratory technique course provides the initial phase of laboratory and clinical education program in endodontics. Topics include: use of instruments and materials in non-surgical treatment, pulpal anatomy and interpretation of radiographs, non-surgical endodontic treatment of uncomplicated non-molar and molar teeth.

Indirect Restoration

Course covers clinical and laboratory procedures involved in fabrication of restorations including inlays, onlays, full coverage crowns, partial fixed dental prosthesis and custom made posts.

Preclinical Lab and Dental Anatomy

Course is designed to develop technical and discriminatory skills with regard to dental anatomy. Anatomical and functional differences of teeth and how they relate are presented. Students will develop skills to replicate the morphological characteristics of the dentition.

Preclinical Basic Skills

The course emphasizes dental anatomy and preclinical basic skills using virtual images of human teeth allowing students to understand the internal anatomy, and introduces skills of virtual wax-up of anterior and posterior teeth.

Introduction to Digital Dentistry

The course introduces proper positioning of patient and operator, maintenance and use of dental hand and rotary instruments to develop manual dexterity skills for tooth preparation and other applications. Other topics: intraoral scanning (Planmeca), Compare software to evaluate tooth preparation.

Complete Removable Dental Prosthesis

The course introduces the clinical and laboratory procedures involved in design and fabrication of the complete denture for endentulous patients.

Partial Removable Dental Prosthesis

The course introduces the clinical and laboratory procedures involved in design and fabrication of a partial removable dental prostheses (partial denture) including: survey of diagnostic casts, partial denture framework design, tooth modifications, final impressioning on a typodont, pouring of master casts, and communication of framework design to a laboratory technician.

Implant Dentistry

The implant dentistry course provides the basic knowledge for treating patients in need of dental implants. The course introduces the basic restorative and surgical skills needed in implant dentistry.
