Continuing Education

Squire Hall and Buffalo skyline.

Our high-quality programs, experienced faculty and ADA CERP are just a few of the reasons why dental professionals choose UB for continuing education.

CE Requirements

  • New York State: Every dentist and dental hygienist registered to practice with a New York State license must take continuing education to be eligible for registration renewal. In each three-year registration period, New York State education law requires dentists to complete 60 contact hours of continuing education and dental hygienists to complete 24 contact hours of continuing education. For more information visit the New York State Office of the Professions website
  • Dental Licensure Requirements by State: The ADA provides a list of the continuing education requirements for dentists, based on information from state dental boards. Please refer to this list to view requirements by state.

About Us

Continuing education through the UB School of Dental Medicine serves health care professionals and alumni by providing high-quality programs that are responsive to their needs and encourage collaboration with our school and professional colleagues.

Our programs connect dental care providers with the best tools and techniques for their professional needs, leading to better patient care and a more enjoyable daily practice. We strive to provide a comprehensive array of courses designed for all levels of the dental profession. Our goal is to reinvest in the program to provide additional educational opportunities for the dental community.

ADA CERP

The University at Buffalo Office of Alumni Relations and Professional Engagement is an American Dental Association CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the ADA to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider or to the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition.

The Office of Alumni Relations and Professional Engagement is an approved sponsor for NYS and verifies at least one full-time employee and the facilities, equipment, financial and physical resources to provide such programs as required by NYS Education Law. Some courses may not be acceptable for New York State mandatory continuing education credit. Other organizations (e.g., AGD, ADHA, DANB, etc.) have different requirements for acceptable continuing education courses. Please submit copies of your CE credit form to those organizations when needed.
