Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Externship

The University at Buffalo Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery offers a one-time externship.  This externship provides an immersive experience shadowing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) residents at our level-one trauma center at Erie County Medical Center, and hospital and dental school clinics. Participants observe clinical workflows, surgical procedures, and patient care in outpatient and operating room environments. The program offers insight into the scope of OMFS practice, including trauma management, dentoalveolar surgery, and complex reconstructive cases when possible. Externs also gain exposure to interdisciplinary collaboration and the residency training process, helping them better understand the demands and rewards of a career in OMFS.
