Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery One-Year (Non-Categorical) Preliminary Internship

The University at Buffalo Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery offers a one-year non-categorical internship position.  This is intended for an individual to gain an additional year of education and experience in full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery beyond dental school level. 

Non-categorical interns will function at the same level as a first-year resident, while receiving the same education, training and responsibilities.  The goal is to prepare them for a post-graduate OMFS residency application or re-application.  Interns will cover trauma and non-trauma call at our level one trauma center at Erie County Medical Center, cover hospital and dental school clinics, perform procedures under local anesthesia, and participate in the operating room.  They will be involved in all academic activities including didactic conferences, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality, and have the opportunity to participate in research activities.

Salary and Benefits

Commensurate with PGY-1 Salary and Benefits.

Eligibility

Applicant must: 

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and provide proof of United States Permanent Residency with PASS Application.

  • Have completed a minimum of 60 undergraduate credit hours in a United States or Canadian institution. Applicants who do not meet this requirement are are not eligible for the program.

  • Graduated FROM an ADA-accredited dental school with a DMD or DDS degree.
