Please contact the coordinator of this ceremony as far in advance as possible to discuss your needs and what accommodations you require.
Please see the Accessibility for Guests page.
These details will be shared at a commencement rehearsal. The rehearsal will take place during the week leading up to the ceremony; the coordinator will notify ceremony participants of the specific date, time and location.
DDS Students are welcome to invite one immediate family member (parent, grandparent, sibling or spouse) who has had a significant influence in their life, and is a dentist, to march in commencement and participate in the hooding ceremony. They will need to wear academic regalia; therefore you may want to order theirs at the same time you order yours if they do not own their own regalia. They will march in the processional and sit on stage with the faculty.
The ceremony will run no longer than two hours maximum. If you plan to attend the post-ceremony reception, take some photos and then return your gown as required in the CFA basement, you can plan on leaving the CFA by approximately 9 or 9:15 p.m.
There are no admission tickets for this ceremony. Participating degree candidates may invite as many guests as they desire.
Seating begins a ½ hour prior to the ceremony start time and is general admission (first-come, first-served).
The Guest Info section of this website has all the information your guests need to know about directions and parking, seating (including seating for children and infants), accessibility and visiting campus.
Children, toddlers and infants are welcome as guests at all commencement ceremonies as long as you follow these guidelines.
Baby strollers are not permitted in the seats or aisles in the theater because of the safety hazards they pose. Therefore, the use of baby strollers is discouraged. If a baby stroller is necessary, it must be left in the entrance of the theater at your own risk.
If you are with a child who is talking, crying or moving around in a manner that is distracting to the ceremony, you may be asked to step outside the ceremony.
The name of each graduate participating in this ceremony will be announced.
