One of the few biomaterials graduate programs in the world, this interdisciplinary masters degree program focuses on the use of synthetic and natural materials in biomedical engineering, dentistry and environmental engineering.

About the Program
Our program is one of the most unique in the country. It emphasizes building fundamental knowledge of biomaterials science and engineering within a multidisciplinary learning environment. It directly integrates clinically-oriented applications of biomaterials and medical devices, and promotes student-focused selection of research topics. New trends in digital dentistry are another focus area. The program offers classroom and seminar opportunities on translational research among dental, medical, and engineering practitioners for the development of advances in devices and therapies in all of these fields.
What is Biomaterials?
Biomaterials replace, duplicate, or augment the function or appearance (or otherwise intimately contact) biological substances, either temporarily or permanently while maintaining compatible interfaces with living cells, biofluids, and their constituents.
This is a research-based program with no direct access to clinical facilities or clinic patients. However, applicants are encouraged to apply for dual enrollment in an Advanced Education clinical program such as Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Endodontics, Periodontics, and Prosthodontics.
Our graduates have gone on to work in the biomedical industry, enter a professional clinical program (DDS, MD, or post graduate), or, if they are already licensed clinicians, obtain an academic clinical position.
Length of Study
Most students complete the program within two academic years. Dual enrolled students follow the start date of their clinical program.
