Mission

The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine has adopted a compliance program that promotes a culture of integrity, professionalism, and corporate responsibility. The compliance program is essential to our mission of providing safe, high-quality, and effective patient care, research and academic services. This plan is applicable to all the school’s employees, agents and contractors.

The compliance program is specifically designed to address and prevent non-compliance with federal and state laws, detect and prevent Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse, and protect patient information in accordance with HIPAA. The New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General has set forth seven fundamental elements of an effective compliance plan; the School of Dental Medicine has incorporated all these elements into its compliance plan. 

Written Policies, Procedures and Standards of Conduct

The School of Dental Medicine has developed written standards of conduct, as well as policies and procedures that promote the school’s mission and commitment to compliance.

Compliance Officer and Compliance Committee

The School of Dental Medicine has designated a compliance officer and compliance committee which is tasked with the oversight and responsibility of operating and monitoring the compliance plan.  

Compliance Program Training and Education

All affected personnel associated with the School of Dental Medicine undergo training and education on the school’s compliance program. 

Lines of Communication

The School of Dental Medicine has open and effective lines of communication including an anonymous hotline, incident reporting system, and open-door policy to the compliance department. The school’s policy on non-intimidation and non-retaliation ensures good faith participation in the compliance program.

Disciplinary Standards

The School of Dental Medicine has disciplinary standards for those who violate compliance policies, applicable statutes, and federal health care program requirements. 

Auditing and Monitoring

The School of Dental Medicine uses risk assessments, audits, and monitoring to assist in identifying and reducing compliance related issues. 

Responding to Compliance Issues

The School of Dental Medicine has developed a system to promptly investigate, respond, and remediate with corrective actions compliance-related issues.
