Pursuing a DDS degree requires a substantial investment of time, effort, intellectual energy and financial resources. At UB, we are keenly aware (and appreciative) of these investments. Whether you need help adjusting to dental school, or you just need someone to talk to, we’re here for you.
When we accept a student into the dental school, it is with the intention that he or she will graduate — which is why we offer a variety of support services for students. We believe that the motivation to provide quality care comes from within the student; we expect our students to be committed, and we are committed to them.
At UB, students pursue a rigorous, challenging dental program (taking 22-27 credit hours each semester) in an environment that fosters collaboration, prizes professional and personal ethics, and supports academic and professional excellence. We support our students in every way we can, including:
The UBSDM community is dedicated to provide academic support to students who are in need of help. The Office of Academic and Student Affairs helps assist students through tutoring services, workshops, and more.
Counseling Services promotes the personal well-being and academic success of students by providing brief mental health services, educational programs, crisis intervention, and campus community consultation.
Our Student Wellness Commitee organizes a variety of activites to help students take a break from the academics. Here at UB we offer many services that help students relax from schoolwork and encourage a positive healthy lifestyle.
The UB Dental Alumni Assocation has a program called DDSConnect, which is a free service of the UB School of Dental Medicine. Its goal is to help current dental students find residencies and jobs after graduating and help contining their dental career with the correct placement.
We are committed to working with all of our student body to create an environment that fosters collaboration and communication. Our Office of Student Affairs, Faculty-Student Committee, Dental Student Association, and two Student-Administration Communications Committees hold meetings throughout the year for students, faculty members, and administration to share information and discuss issues of concern. We have established these various organizations and committees to involve students in the school-wide decision-making and to provide a forum for students to discuss issues affecting the school and their lives within it.
The Office of Academic and Student Affairs promotes student growth and development by establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with each class of dental students. This is accomplished via class officers, informing faculty and administration of student issues and concerns, maintaining an academic counseling system, publishing and distributing a Student Handbook and a Student Directory, in addition to overseeing an awards and scholarship program.
