New and updated lab space lets students focus on learning state-of-the-art techniques and perfecting their skills.
Learn more about our $25 million renovation of our pre-clinical simulation center and patient clinics.
Marking the first major School of Dental Medicine renovation in 30 years, the Preclinical Simulation Laboratory will double the size of the existing Preclinical Laboratory, expand digital dental technology and facilitate the introduction of new teaching models.
The $11 million investment will make the school competitive with peers. Construction begins in July and is expected to last 18 months.
The School of Dental Medicine has two fully equipped, full-service prosthodontic laboratories located on the second floor of Squire Hall. Each laboratory employs full-time certified dental laboratory technicians to assist both predoctoral and graduate students with the completion of dental laboratory procedures associated with patient care. The experience students gain in interacting with the school’s technical laboratories prepares them to effectively communicate with commercial dental laboratories when they enter practice.
Under the supervision of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, dental laboratory technicians in the Fixed Prosthodontic Technical Laboratory fabricate crowns and bridges, apply porcelain, and serve as a technical resource for DDS and graduate students.
Certified dental laboratory technicians perform all phases in the fabrication of removable partial dentures and complete dentures. Students learn to write laboratory prescriptions and interact with technicians to achieve optimal clinical results. Laboratory technicians work closely with third- and fourth-year students assigned to treat emergency patients in the repair of broken or damaged dentures.
A historic renovation of Squire Hall will strengthen our ability to attract top students, treat patients and improve the educational experience.
