Give Kids a Smile Day

Every year, School of Dental Medicine students, faculty, staff and alumni provide free dental care for children throughout the community.

Serving 800+ Kids Each Year

Give Kids A Smile Day is for kids throughout the community who may not have a dentist, may not be able to visit a dentist on a regular basis, or may not have the resources to pay for dental care. Buses bring children to UB and other treatment centers, where the children receive exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays, fillings and extractions, if needed.

We treat a variety of children at Give Kids a Smile Day, including:

  • Public school students
  • Amish children
  • Refugees
  • Special needs children

Since the program began, UB has treated nearly 10,000 children.

Teaching Good Habits

An important part of Give Kids a Smile Day is educating children about their oral health. At the kid-friendly Teddy Bear Clinic (a separate area set up for the day), students use puppets and other props to teach kids about taking care of their teeth, visiting the dentist and leading a healthy lifestyle.
