Research Profile

This laboratory is engaged in the study of bone cell metabolism with specific emphasis on signalling regulatory mechanisms in osteoblastic cells obtained from human alveolar bone. The mechanisms of action of sphingosine phosphates as well as other biolipids are currently under study with receptor and post-receptor events being analyzed. The actions of bisphosphonates on osteoblastic cells are also being investigated in light of the recent reports of these agents on osteonecrosis in the oral cavity. Studies with growth factors are also being extended to tissue engineering approaches for the development of more efficient material systems to enhance osseous regeneration in critical size defects.
