The Journey Begins

The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic rite of passage for beginning dental students to help establish a psychological contract for professionalism and empathy in the practice of dentistry.  The event emphasizes the importance of both scientific excellence and compassionate care for the patient.  The participation of faculty, upperclassmen and family members who are dentists symbolizes the connection between the entry into the profession and the realization of career goals. 

The School of Dental Medicine gratefully acknowledges the generous contributions of the Alan Gross Fund in sponsoring the white coat ceremony.

Established in 1892, the School of Dental Medicine continues to educate general practitioners, specialists and biomedical scientists in the art and science of oral health through our comprehensive accredited programs.

The complete classroom-to-clinic experience provided by Oral Diagnostic Sciences supported by several specialty care clinics including one associated with the Center for Orofacial Pain Research.

The first part of the year is always a busy time for School of Dental Medicine researchers. In addition to steady activity in our laboratories and clinics, students and faculty are preparing and submitting abstracts for the annual meeting of the International Association for Dental Research.
